Proper treatment of footwear, socks, floors, bed linen and fungus baths is one of the main conditions for successful recovery. It’s a shame when I spent a lot of time and money on the treatment of onychomycosis of the nails or foot fungus (and some even go back to years) and relapse happened due to negligence – improper disinfection of personal hygiene items or shoes can easily become a source of infection. Unfortunately, not all doctors pay due attention to disinfection and are more focused on writing out prescriptions, and the patient does not even know how to properly wash socks during nail fungus. It is not right.

What Do You Need to Handle with Fungi?

Favorable environment for the development of fungus – wet rooms. That is why mycosis infection most often occurs in baths, swimming pools and public showers. However, disputes can persist for many years at home:

care for shoes with fungus
  • on the bathroom floor;
  • on carpets;
  • in bed linen;
  • in socks, stockings, pantyhose;
  • in the bathroom itself;
  • on items of personal hygiene (nail scissors, scourers, pumice, etc.);
  • shoes.

Particular attention is paid to the treatment of these items in the treatment of fungus on the legs at home, because slippers or pumice stone can lead to reinfection or infection of relatives.

The use of an antifungal UV dryer for shoes will be useless without prior treatment with alcohol solutions or antiseptic agents.

How and What Is the Right Way to Handle Shoes with a Fungus?

Even in spite of the fact that you do not put your shoes on bare feet, with mycoses of feet and nail fungus, it must be regularly disinfected. And if the socks can still be thrown out after recovery for safety, then only a few can do this with shoes. Therefore, all shoes that come into contact with the areas affected by fungi should be specially treated using the following means:

treatment for shoes with fungus
  • Acetic Essence 40%;
  • Chlorhexidine solution;
  • Formidron;
  • Formalin.

Particular attention is paid to the last two products, which are strictly forbidden to use without the advice of a doctor. Formaldehyde, which is part of Formidron, can lead to tissue necrosis, dermatitis, eczema, and even death. It is prescribed only for hyperhidrosis of the feet and for the treatment of shoes when onychomycosis is neglected.

It is best to choose 40% Vinegar or Chlorhexidine, which can process shoes daily. For the night with a cotton wool soaked in vinegar, thoroughly wipe the insole, inside the shoes and put on the balcony for airing. You can also wipe daily slippers.

A method is also common when shoes are treated with an alcohol solution, wrapped in polyethylene and a freezer is put. Although scientists argue that the spores of fungi are not afraid of frost.

How to Wash Socks with Nail Fungus?

One of the main conditions for the successful treatment of all types of onychomycosis is daily change, washing and processing socks. The following procedures are considered very effective:

treatment of shoes if you faced with fungus
  1. Soak socks for half an hour in water diluted with vinegar, hydrogen peroxide or chlorhexidine.
  2. Washing socks with household or tar soap;
  3. Boiling in soapy water for 15-20 minutes.

It is best to soak and boil socks with a nail fungus, and only then do it well by hand. After they are dry, you can even iron. It is not recommended to use a washing machine, at least at the time of treatment. After recovery, if possible, throw all socks off.

All synthetic socks, pantyhose and stockings should be thrown away immediately, as they are not amenable to heat treatment.

Disinfection of Personal Hygiene Items with Fungus and Additional Measures of Protectio

Treatment of onychomycosis and foot fungus at home involves a number of activities that use personal care products:

  1. processing of personal hygiene products at fungus peziza;
  2. bast;
  3. nail file;
  4. nail scissors.

All of these items are subject to disinfection, as they can cause fungal spores, which can lead to reinfection or infection of other family members. After each procedure, scissors and a nail file are treated with an alcohol solution or hydrogen peroxide. Pumice stone and sponge treated with soapy water from household or tar soap.

Much attention is paid to the disinfection of the room after complete recovery. All carpets (with which the patient was in contact) should be dry-cleaned. After it can be treated with a weak solution of chlorhexidine or an antiseptic spray. All bedding is boiled in soapy water, washed and smoothed. If a tile is laid on the floor in the bathroom, it is thoroughly washed out with water, to which hydrogen peroxide or chlorhexidine solution is added.

Of all the proposed means, the most effective and safe is Chlorhexidine, which can handle shoes, socks and personal care products, even for preventive purposes. Advantages – no smell and affordable price, no cons found.
