Nail rubromycosis is a fungal disease that affects the nail plate and surrounding tissue. In recent years, pathology has increasingly begun to affect people regardless of their age. Infection occurs through domestic and direct contact. Most often, infection occurs during visits to public places – showers, saunas and swimming pools.
Factors Contributing to the Development of the Disease
It can be divided into several factors that cause the development of nail rubromycosis:
- Immunity of the patient is reduced.
- Due to the fact that hormones are disturbed, endocrine diseases develop.
- The skin is too sweating, or on the contrary there is excessive dryness.
- In the lower limbs impaired blood circulation.
Very often, long-term treatment and administration of potent drugs may also be one of the causes of all types of rubromycosis. There is also a statistic that says that every second patient who is faced with a ruberitis of the nails works in a room with high humidity and temperature. At risk, bathhouse attendants, pool workers, foundries and miners.
It has been proven that overweight, excessive sweating and violation of the rules of hygiene contribute to the development of nail rubric. Every second patient suffering from hyperhidrosis of the feet is diagnosed with a neglected nail plate fungus.
The symptoms of the disease are as follows:
- Rubromycosis can strike all the nails at once, both on the legs and on the hands.
- Infection of the disease most often occurs from the free edge or from the side of the nail plate.
- You may notice that stripes of yellow or white color have formed on the outside of the nail, and, sometimes, they appear to be translucent as if from the inside.
- At the initial stage of the development of the disease, the thickness of the affected nails does not change, but after some time, the subungual hyperkeratosis occurs, the nails crumble, break, and exfoliate.
There is a certain stage of the disease, it is called atrophic, it is characterized by the fact that the nail completely moves away from the nail bed, the plate becomes thinner and then completely destroyed.

Treatment and Prevention
Rubrofitia is difficult to treat, so the therapy always takes place in several stages. Successful results can be achieved only if the patient will comply with all the recommendations of the attending physician. It is also desirable to have an idea that all mycoses of the feet are treated in two stages: preparatory and main.
Nail rubromycosis can begin to treat at home. It all starts with the fact that the patient must cut the entire damaged part of the nail file with a nail file, then this place is disinfected, for this you can use alcohol. Antifungal lacquer is applied on top.
If nail damage is necessary to use external means – Lamikon, Miconazole, Exoderil. It is necessary to use drugs according to the instruction. The duration of such treatment depends on the stage of development of the disease and, as a rule, lasts from two weeks to a year.
Neglected cases are treated by combining systemic and local drugs. Good reviews are the combination of griseofulvin with clotrimazole. Also, some doctors may recommend fluconazole intake and pimafucin outwardly. In severe cases, it may be necessary to remove the nail plate using surgery or keratolytic agents. After removal, treatment of the nail bed with antifungal drugs for 1-2 months is shown.
Lacquers with Loceryl content have an effective effect, they should be applied as follows: the first month two to three times a week, the next 4 months once a week.
In the treatment of the disease, the main role is played by prevention; it must be performed not only at the time of the development of the disease, but also after the course of treatment has been completed to avoid relapse. The first step is to follow the rules of personal hygiene. Change linen daily, never use other people’s personal hygiene items, and also do not give anyone yours. When visiting public places, such as saunas or baths, wear only your own shoes. If all recommendations are followed, the chance for recovery and the absence of relapses in the future is greatly enhanced.
