Candida balanoposthitis occurs in men very often and is well treatable at the initial stage. There are a number of related factors that can cause the appearance of the disease, but fungi of the genus Candida, which cause inflammation of the glans penis and the foreskin, are always at the core. Unfortunately, not all men, when identifying the first symptoms, go to a dermatovenerologist reception, this leads to the transformation of the disease into chronic candidal balanoposthitis, which is difficult to treat and can lead to a number of complications

The Causes

Experienced urologists say that at the initial stage, fungal balanoposthitis can be overcome without medication. To do this, it is necessary to carry out regular, thorough toilet of the genitals and thoroughly dry the glans penis. Humidity is a favorable breeding ground for fungi. You can also use the bath and wipe on the basis of a light solution of potassium permanganate.

Candida balanoposthitis in men can be caused by one of the fungi of the genus Candida, which may not always show vivid symptoms. The most common types are:

  1. C.albicans;
  2. C.tropicalis;
  3. C.krusei;
  4. glabrata;
  5. C. parapsilosis.

In 70% of cases, the fungus on the penis head in men is caused by the pathogen C.albicans. You can become infected sexually from a girl suffering from thrush, but venereologists do not consider this disease a sexual infection. A favorable environment and a number of related factors are necessary for its development:

  • leading promiscuous sex life;
  • diabetes;
  • phimosis;
  • ignoring the rules of personal hygiene;
  • long taking antibiotics;
  • stress;
  • long-term alcohol intake;
  • synthetic tight linen;
  • dysbacteriosis;
  • concomitant sexually transmitted diseases.

From all of the above, you can pay attention to the fact that candidal balanoposthitis is usually diagnosed in diabetics and men who do not pay enough attention to the toilet of the head of the penis and the foreskin.

Symptoms

In men, candidal balanoposthitis is always accompanied by vivid symptomatology, especially at the initial stage and during the initial infection. The main symptoms are:

In advanced cases, very often the skin peels off the head and the inflammatory process spreads to the entire length of the penis. Very rarely, all of the above symptoms can occur almost imperceptibly, which is misleading for a man who thinks that nothing terrible doesn’t bother him much and goes away. Unfortunately, in every second case, without adequate treatment, the chronic form of fungal balanoposthitis develops, which is complicated by additional urogenital infections.

Complications

In most cases, candidal balanoposthitis in men occurs without complications that affect sexual activity. The fact is that the fungus Candida is not too well acclimatized on the male genitals. However, it should be remembered that the lack of adequate treatment and letting the process take its course can lead to the following phenomena:

  • non-healing wounds (cracks) on the foreskin and skin of the penis;
  • narrowing of the foreskin;
  • head wrinkling;
  • decrease in the sensitivity of the head;
  • the accession of secondary infections.

Of all the above, one should pay attention to the first and last points, since open wounds on the mucous membranes are the entrance gate for such infections as chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis.

Diagnosis and Treatment

If at least several clinical signs of fungal balanoposthitis appear, it is recommended that you seek the help of a specialist as soon as possible. At the initial stage, it is possible to get rid of the symptoms within a few days of treatment with the help of external preparations.

Diagnosis includes the examination of the clinical picture (in 80% of patients come with hyperemia of the glans penis, white patina and unpleasant smell). To exclude concomitant diseases and determine the pathogen microscopic examination is carried out on the basis of scrapings and secretions from the lesions. The selection of drugs is based on the sensitivity of the detected fungi to antimycotics. With minimal manifestation of clinical symptoms, it is possible to dispense with the use of external preparations:

  • Lamisil;
  • Clotrimazole;
  • Nacriderm-GK;
  • Pimafucort;
  • Miconazole;
  • Pimafucin;
  • Candide;
  • Triderm.

The most powerful of all the listed creams is Triderm, the cheapest – Clotrimazole. In both cases, the cream is gently rubbed into the skin along the entire length of the penis 2 times a day for 7-10 days at the discretion of the doctor. Launched cases are treated with the help of complex therapy, which in addition to the use of external agents includes the use of medication:

  • Fluconazole;
  • Diflucan;
  • Flucostat;
  • Terbinafine;
  • Ketoconazole.

In severe cases, when exacerbations are observed more than 3-5 times a month, surgical intervention can be applied. Due to the surgical incision, it is possible to free the glans penis from under the skin. This allows you to conduct a careful toilet and reduce the favorable environment for the reproduction of fungi.

Much attention is paid to the prevention of balanoposthitis, which excludes unprotected promiscuous sex and the wearing of synthetic underwear. Especially important is the regular toilet of the genitals and increased immunity. With constant relapses and diabetes, it is recommended to perform a circumcision procedure.
